PILATES

PILATES
The intensely focused work of Pilates deeply strengthens the spine and abdominals and creates length in your entire body.

Core strength
Emphasis is placed on developing deep torso strength and flexibility - known as core strength - to ensure proper posture and reduce risk of injury to joints and muscles. With the centering benefits of core strength you'll feel leaner, lighter and more fluid in body and mind.

Balance
Pilates exercise began in the 1900's but became popular with dancers in the 1940's because of the therapeutic value of core strengthening. Now athletes, physiotherapists, fitness trainers, health care providers and other professionals realize the significant role Pilates plays in restoring and maintaining physical harmony, balance and health.

Training
Pilates conditioning sessions are done with a certified instructor, either one-to-one on specially designed apparatus, or in closely supervised small groups called mat work.

One-to-one sessions require one or more pieces of apparatus: the Reformer, the Cadillac, the Wunda Chair, the Ped-i-Pull, and the Spine Corrector. Each piece is designed to allow the pilates trainer observe and direct detail in muscle movement. Individual articulation of each vertebrae is carefully controlled and performed to develop proper muscle coordination and grace. Even muscular movement in the toes and fingers is deliberate and directed.

Executing the proper structure of movement is similarly essential in the mat work. The coordination of breath inhalation and exhalation timing and the order of muscular activation echo German precision, and produce results that creates devotees and aficionados of standard citizens and superstars who sing its praises.
